Spring is on its way, and in sunny La Jolla, it feels like it’s here. It’s the time of year to take longer walks so you can stop and smell the roses, or bring back a bouquet as a surprise for a special someone. If you’re a flower enthusiast, you may enjoy the fact that your Bed and Breakfast Inn in La Jolla is less than an hour away from The Flower Fields of Carlsbad, California, which begins its season this month. However, you can find plenty of examples of spring flowers right here in La Jolla, either out in nature or in some of our local flower shops downtown.
La Jolla Cove
The tiny La Jolla Cove is already filled with breathtaking scenery year round, making it one of the most photographed beaches in Southern California. In spring, you may start to notice patches of purple, red, or yellow popping up along the cliffs of the cove. The combination of the soil, the sun, and the water allows wildflowers to bloom all along La Jolla Cove. You can take a camera with you for your day at the beach to take pictures of all of the wildflowers you come across, or pick a few to take back to your room at the Bed and Breakfast Inn. Either way, this is a great place to start in your search for spring flowers in La Jolla.
The Secret Garden Tour
Every March, the La Jolla Historical Society puts on a Secret Garden Tour, exploring courtyards and private gardens throughout La Jolla. Residents throughout La Jolla open up their own gardens as a stop on the tour, celebrating all things botanical in La Jolla. Not only will you find beautiful, well-cared for flowers here, but innovative landscaping designs and live music throughout the night. There will also be garden accessories and plants, including flowers, for sale by local vendors throughout the night, so you can come away from this tour with more than just the memory of a wonderful night.
If you’re looking for a particular arrangement, or you want spring flowers for a special occasion, there are a number of local florists in downtown La Jolla, just a short walk away from the Bed and Breakfast Inn. While these flowers are flowers to be purchased and not just a photo shoot, how better to liven up your room or celebrate and important anniversary than with a bouquet or floral arrangement from a local florist. Many of the flowers you’ll find in shops here are the same flowers you might have noticed during the Secret Garden Tour, locally grown and picked, and colorfully assembled. Visiting our local florist shops is a great way to welcome in spring.
La Jolla is a beautiful place to visit for the spring.
