La Jolla Independent Businesses: Pizza

Whether you’re at home or on vacation, there’s never a wrong time to grab a slice of pizza. In La Jolla, there are several pizzerias and pizza bars for any kind of pizza lover. You can pair your pizza with a draft beer or a delicious salad. You can find gluten free options that taste as good as the rest. So if you’ve just arrived in La Jolla and you’re craving a slice, drop your bags and check out one of these pizza places:

Regents Pizzeria

Near the college campus, Regents has everything you need to satisfy your cravings for a pizza night. Not only do they have delicious pizzas by the slice or full pie, but they have beers on tap, hot wings, sandwiches and salads, hot wings, and even a bacon plate. UCSD students love Regents as a place to celebrate or get a food break before cramming for finals. When it comes to pizza, you can expend hand spun pizza in a number of varieties, including the popular New York styles and Chicago deep-dish style. Regents is located in a strip mall on Regents Park Row, and definitely worth checking out.

Piazza 1909

Pizza, homemade pasta, brunch, vegetarian and gluten free options — what more could you want? Piazza 1909 holds onto its rich history, stretching back to the original beach house in 1909. Today, they’re known for their beautiful setting, excellent service, and gourmet menu. This restaurant would more accurately be called an Italian restaurant than a pizzeria, though pizza is a significant part of their dinner menu, including Margherita pizza, Napoletana, and Frutti Di Mare with mussels, clams, calamari and shrimp. And you can do more than eat here: you can learn here, with monthly cooking classes that include tastings and a glass of wine.

Pizza Pronto

Also on Fay Avenue, Pizza Pronto offers a more laid back dining experience. Here you can order a mixture of pizza classics and more creative takes, as well as sandwiches and kebabs, and you can eat it to go or in their light, casual eatery. Try anything from their Meat Lover’s pizza to their Margarita pizza or the Chicken Pesto, or if you can’t decide, take a chance on one of the specials. They also offer party trays for large groups. All the ingredients are made fresh by this family owned pizzeria.

After a day of hitting the shops of downtown La Jolla, why not stop by Catania for a wood-fired pizza or homemade pasta on the top floor of the La Plaza center? Catania is a classy option for an authentic Italian food experience, including pizza. Pair your pizza with some wine as you overlook the sweeping view. The service is famously exceptional and they serve lunch and dessert as well as dinner.

La Jolla loves pizza, especially pizza from our locally owned pizzerias and restaurants. Check out these pizza places and more after you book your stay at The Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla for your next vacation.
