Nothing makes fall feel so real as strolling through a fall festival, and in La Jolla, one of our favorites is on its way. The tenth annual La Jolla Art and Wine Festival begins on October 6th in Girard Avenue this year. This festival features a wide mixture of vibrant art, a beloved wine and beer garden, and live music throughout. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the mild weather and colorful season. The best part of the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival, however, is that it’s free and open to the public. Here are a few reasons the La Jolla Art and Wine festival is one to check out this year:
Art and Wine
The La Jolla Art and Wine Festival gathers over 150 artists from the US and Mexico to create a wide variety of art and color to this festival. You’ll find art in all forms here: painting, sculpting, photography, jewelry, woodwork, and art pieces that incorporate several different mediums. Unlike walking through a gallery, you can discuss with the artist here and learn which pieces are their favorite and what processes they like to use best. The Geppetto’s Family Art Center will also offer interactive demos to add to the spectacle of the day. And through the family art center, kids can learn how to make art of their own or even paint a car.
But art is just one part of what gave this festival its name. If you’re 21 and over, there’s also the wine and beer garden, where you can sample wine and beer not just from California, but France or Guadalupe. This year, there are 35 participants helping to create the wine and beer garden to offer a mix of delightful tastes. Don’t forget to bring your ID.
Colorful artwork and delightful brews aren’t all you’ll find at this festival. It’s also a great place to listen to live music from several local musical acts, from Kimba Light to Whitney Shay to the La Jolla High School Marching Band. You can sample food from local vendors at stands throughout the festival and participate in a silent auction where you could win spa days, jewelry and clothes from local boutiques, and gift certificates to restaurants and beauty salons. If you’re an animal lover, check out the Sip ‘N’ Drool pet adoption event and the many adorable dogs that can be found there. Last year over 55 dogs were adopted at the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival alone.
Artists and Other Vendors
Maybe you’re coming to La Jolla Art and Wine Festival as a patron, or maybe your reason for coming to La Jolla was to host a booth at the festival. Every year, applications for artists start in February. You can find the answer to several potential questions you might have about participating in the event by checking out their Artist FAQ. You can also apply to be a participant in the Wine and Beer garden. This year, all musical acts have been booked, but you can attempt to book again for next year’s festival.
