Get Your Spook On in La Jolla This Halloween

October 29, 2018

With fall officially here in La Jolla, you may have noticed a change in more than just the air. Everyone from residents to local businesses are breaking out their Halloween decorations in preparation for the big holiday. If you’re spending Halloween in La Jolla this year, take advantage of the many Halloween celebrations going on in town or in the surrounding San Diego area. This is a great time of year for a family visit to La Jolla. Just don’t forget to pack the kids’ costumes!

Pillage the Village

One popular La Jolla Halloween event is Pillage the Village, which spans downtown La Jolla during the afternoon of October 31. Your kids can get dressed up in their favorite Halloween costumes and stroll down Girard and Prospect with buckets ready for candy. When you see storefronts or merchant stands with orange and black balloons, you’ll know that’s a place giving out candy to trick-or-treaters. The participating merchants range from floral shops and restaurants, spas and clothing boutiques, and more, so adults might find something for themselves as well. When you finish up there, you’ll still have plenty of time for residential trick-or-treating.

Haunted Aquarium: Sea Monster Mash

Want a Halloween treat that’s a little more specifically La Jolla? Head over to the Scripps Institution, particularly the Birch Aquarium, for the Haunted Aquarium. Here your kids can learn to make their own seaweed slime and be introduced to squids as well as “sea monsters” that glow in the dark. They can enjoy Halloween themed crafts like making their own trick-or-treat bag, or they can gather around for spooky stories. There’s live music going throughout the event to keep the theme going. Costumes are encouraged as long as they’re family friendly. This event runs October 26-27th.

SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular

One of San Diego’s largest Halloween celebrations, SeaWorld San Diego’s Halloween Spooktacular is one your family simply can’t miss. You can enjoy live shows like Clyde & Seamore’s Big Halloween Bash or the Sesame Street Halloween Parade. There are Halloween dance parties as well as plenty of opportunities to trick-or-treat throughout the event. If you keep your eyes and ears peeled, you may even catch a singing pumpkin. All the fun and festivities began on September 22nd and run through October 28th.

Hallo-wine and Spirits Party

If you’re looking for a Halloween party for adults, Hotel del Coronado’s Hallo-wine and Spirits Party for guests 21 and over is your solution. You can dress up in your favorite Halloween costume, enjoy delicious refreshments and dancing. But don’t worry, you don’t have to leave the kids behind. There’s a separate kid-themed party for kids age 4-12. The main theme this year is Legendary Screams from the Silver Screen, while the kids’ party is Hotel Transylvania. This event starts Saturday, October 27th at 7pm.
