Where to Golf in La Jolla
For many people, golf goes hand-in-hand with the rest and relaxation of a vacation (or even a staycation!). With sunny weather year round, it’s tempting to want to hit the links during your time off and take in the scenery. But in La Jolla, you might not know where to find that scenery. Fortunately, we do and we’re here to help. While you can find several golf courses when you venture into San Diego proper, there are a few gems in La Jolla itself where you can enjoy a good day of golf.
Torrey Pines State Reserve is well-known throughout La Jolla for its 2,000 acres of preserved nature and wildlife. But the rare and local Torrey Pine also lends its name to a popular golf course, and it’s the first place avid golfers in La Jolla will suggest. If you like to take in the scenery as you tee off, you’ll love Torrey Pines, seated on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s the home of PGA TOUR’s Farmers Insurance Open, and it’s the location where Tiger Woods won a hard-earned victory against Rocco Mediate. There’s a golf shop on course where you can find whatever you might be lacking from your supplies.
Another popular option is the “course on a hill,” the renowned La Jolla Country Club. This course also overlooks the ocean, as well as a picturesque view of the village itself. In addition to all the necessary amenities, there’s a Colonial-style clubhouse where you can stop for lunch or simply to take in the view. Although this is a country club, guests are permitted, and in fact this has been a favorite golf course for famous golfers as well as golf enthusiast tourists.
Golf Courses in San Diego
If you want a different golfing experience than either of the above, you can take a short drive into San Diego where you’ll find a number of renowned golf courses. Balboa Park Golf Course with its challenging 72-par is the oldest public golf course in San Diego, and includes a Pro shop, café, and practice greens. Best of all, it’s close to all the action: only five minutes from the San Diego Convention Center. Mission Bay Golf Course also has a practice center for beginning golfers, as well as stadium lighting so you can play after the sun goes down. This golf course also has a rich history, as it’s where Tiger Woods won a World Junior title. Tecolote Canyon Golf Course offers all the picturesque, sweeping views you could ask for as well as convenient location near SeaWorld, downtown, and Mission Beach.
When you’re finished with a day of golf, reward yourself with a relaxing night in your luxurious room at The Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla. We have a wide variety of rooms with various views and a convenient location of our own, just a few minutes away from La Jolla Cove and the shopping downtown. Don’t forget!
