Summer vacation may not be here yet, but there’s a good chance you’ve already started planning what you’d like to do when you get a chance this summer. There’s also a good chance that you’re already looking for ways to save money on your upcoming summer vacation. If your plan is to take a trip to San Diego this year and visit the many attractions — like Legoland, SeaWorld, or the San Diego Zoo — we can help with a guide to finding discount tickets and other ways to save money for your trip.
Go San Diego Card
If you travel frequently, you may already know that many cities have a “CityPass” or “Go Card” that bundles together the most popular attractions in the city to help you get the most out of your trip. In San Diego, the most efficient option is the Go San Diego Card. In fact, a Go San Diego Card has a variety of options. It includes 40 popular attractions in San Diego, from cruises to theme parks and much more.
You can purchase an “all you can do for 1 day” card for as low as $93.60 for adults and $89.10 for children. There are also 2 day, 3 day, 5 day, and finally 7 day Go San Diego Cards. The 7 day cards include premium attractions and go for $299 for adults, but for as many attractions as you can pack into a 7-day trip, it’s still quite a steal.
The Go San Diego Card is probably the most widespread way to bundle tickets, but it’s not the only option. If certain attractions are associated with one another or closely connected, they may have options for ticket bundling. For instance, the Balboa Park Explorer Multi-Day Pass also includes one day at the San Diego Zoo, which is right next door. Balboa Park also bundles with various trolley tours and cruises. The San Diego 3-for-1 ticket allows you to visit SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park all for one price.
Many attractions in San Diego will offer discounts to AAA members, as well as San Diego accommodations. Large groups often receive discounts, such as the San Diego Zoo’s 10% off policy for groups of 15 or more. Military veterans or military spouses will sometimes receive discounts, as will students and seniors. In fact, active duty US Armed Forces actually receive a complimentary 1-day pass to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park by presenting a Common Access Card or Uniformed Services ID Card. You will need photo ID or other appropriate identification for all of these discounts, but if applicable, they’re worth taking advantage of.
