Having a date night in a new city can be an exciting break from the same old dinner and a movie. Even simply strolling down the street or checking out a local park offers an opportunity experience new sights and sounds together. However, most lovebirds are looking for something a little more creative, and San Diego certainly has plenty to offer. Here are a few of our favorite date night ideas for your San Diego vacation.
Take a Wine Tour
There’s more to California’s wine scene than Napa Valley and Temecula. In San Diego, you’ll find a small but diverse, charming collection of wineries, some located as conveniently as downtown San Diego, like Bernardo Winery, San Diego’s oldest winery. At these wineries, you can still explore the vineyards and learn how the wine is made, often from the winery owners themselves. And of course, there are also tasting rooms where you can sample delicious wine with your significant other.
Check Out a Local Trivia Night
Sometimes the best date nights when you’re on vacation are ones that make you feel like a local. If that’s the kind of experience you want, you can check out a local bar on trivia night and join in the fun. Knotty Barrel in East Village offers live trivia every Thursday night at 8pm. If you’re looking for something a little more interest specific, try Mo’s Bar and Grill or True North Tavern, who occasionally host Harry Potter themed trivia.
Dinner and Movie at the Dive-In
Yes, you read that right. Not drive-in, but dive-in. Every Wednesday, the Pearl Hotel hosts a dive-in theatre event by their pool. You can grab a bite to eat before you arrive or at the hotel’s restaurant and then grab a seat poolside and enjoy the movie. You can dip your toes in the water as you watch or even hop into the pool for a completely different experience. Best of all, the movie is free so you’ll only have to worry about the cost of dinner.
Relax at the Beach
Of course, if you’re in the San Diego area, you’ll want to check out the beach, so why not make a date night out of it? There are several beaches to explore throughout San Diego. If you stay in La Jolla, you’ll have beautiful options to choose from including La Jolla Shores, Windansea Beach, and of course, La Jolla Cove. The intimate size of the cove, surrounded by beautiful bluffs and natural scenery, makes La Jolla Cove the perfect setting for a date night. While it’s still light out, you might see seals and sea lions playing on the shore. You can collect sea shells as the sun sets at Shell Beach or check out some of the sea caves like Sunny Jim cave. There are plenty of local restaurants nearby that overlook the cove so you can eat first.
Stay Close to Your B&B
It’s always nice when you can walk from your accommodations to your date night without much trouble, and The Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla is so conveniently located in the center of things that you can easily do so. THE LOT, right down the road from us, is perfect for a dinner and movie night in that you can do it all in one place: upscale dining developed by local chef Matt Richman and a full cinema showing all the latest movie hits. A couple blocks down the street, there’s Manhattan, which features not only delicious food and fine dining but live music every Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is known for its sophisticated jazz standards feeling and it has a dance floor for couples who like to move.
What if you want a date night just staying in? The historic Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla offers in-room dining and even a private patio for the Gill Suite. We also have add-ons that can make your date night even more special. Best of all, when you book with us direct, we’ll price match the cost of the room and even add on a 5% discount.
