Think San Diego is just for a summer vacation? Think again! A trip to San Diego in the fall could be a great way to put off the coming cold weather, explore the local microbrewery scene, and so much more. In autumn, you can find all the usual appeals of San Diego as well as annual festivals and celebrations. If you’re planning a trip to San Diego in the coming autumn season, here are a few suggestions of things to do:
Check Out a Wine or Beer Festival
There’s something about autumn. The crisp atmosphere makes it the perfect time of year to enjoy a cool glass of beer. Apparently, many people agree, which is why there are several beer festivals to be found in San Diego this fall. Starting September 7, you can check out the Carlsbad Brewfest, offering not just tastings from tens of breweries from San Diego and beyond, but games, live music, and entertainment for festivalgoers. Then on September 21, you can check out the San Diego Festival Of Beer or the Bayside Brew and Spirits Festival. Finally in October, sip some wine and enjoy some culture at the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival.
Check Out a Horse Race
The Del Mar Race Track is a great place to visit throughout the year, but fall just may be the best season to check out a horse race here. The fall racing season is called Bing Crosby season, named for the classic Hollywood crooner who helped to open the track over 80 years ago in 1937. A horse racing enthusiast himself, Crosby went so far as to greet the first fans that entered the track. Here you can see beautiful thoroughbreds race, horses you might even see in the big races like the Kentucky Derby or Breeder’s Cup eventually. You can even enjoy brunch here on Thanksgiving.
Relax on the Beach
You can visit the beach — or the many beaches — any time you visit San Diego. It will be here year round. But many visitors prefer to go during the fall, as the beach is less crowded and they can enjoy it without the chaos that sometimes comes with busy summer seasons. You won’t miss out any experiences during the fall. Snorkeling and scuba diving are still possible, and there are plenty of sunny days during which to relax on the shore or wade into the water. We recommend the nearby La Jolla Shores or La Jolla Cove. Windansea is also a popular beach for avid surfers.
It may not be peak season, but that could be just one more reason to visit San Diego this fall if you missed the opportunity this summer. The question is finding the right accommodation. The Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla offers comfort and hospitality in a historic setting, just a short walk away from convenient amenities, downtown shopping, and La Jolla Cove. Book your room with us directly and we’ll price match the room and throw in a 5% discount.
