There’s more to La Jolla than beaches and parks. One of the perks of visiting is that the weather is generally sunny and warm, but occasionally, like anywhere else, we do have a rainy day. There also might be a day when you find yourself wanting to enjoy the indoor possibilities at La Jolla. Fortunately, there is plenty to offer. Here are a few suggestions of things you can do on a rainy or otherwise indoors-y kind of day in La Jolla.
See a Movie
Sure, you can see a movie anywhere, but only in La Jolla can you see one in our luxury theaters, so a movie is still a great choice for a day that doesn’t seem destined for beachgoing. At the mall, you can find AMC La Jolla with twelve theaters and ridiculously comfortable plush recliners so you can enjoy the movie in luxury. The Lot, a specifically La Jolla based theater, shows independent films as well as big hits and offers more than just movies. It’s something a central hub, including a cafe, dining options, and cocktails. ArcLight Cinemas offers both new and classic movies, such as their “ArcLight presents…” series.
Check out the Aquarium
If you want to keep everyone entertained rain or shine, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute has all the wonder you need. You can check out the vast array of habitats and species or get your kids engaged with daily animal feedings or interactive exhibits. Tickets are just $12.50 for children between the ages of 3-12, making this a perfect family activity. During Halloween, check out the Haunted Aquarium, or Seas ‘n’ Greetings during the holiday season, when you may even find Santa swimming in one of the tanks.
Find a New Book
Something about gray, rainy weather makes the perfect atmosphere to fall into a good book. The main bookstore in La Jolla is Warwick’s, where you can find all the latest releases and popular books as well as old favorites. It’s the kind of open, bustling bookstore that every book lover knows. For a more cozy experience, there’s also DG Wills. At DG Wills, you’re likely to find full stacks of older, rarer, or otherwise eclectic books. However, this bookstore is far from obscure and is known to host notable author readings. Either store can make a welcome stop for an indoors-y day in La Jolla.
Feel like staying in on a rainy day and just treating yourself? At The Bed & Breakfast Inn, that’s possible, with our number of specials and enhancing add-ons.
